Abortion Action MO

Who we are: Abortion Action Missouri is the leading grassroots organization in the state fighting for Abortion Access and Reproductive Freedom. Our mission is to foster and maintain a Midwest movement for control of our bodies, lives and futures. We envision a world with stigma-free abortion access and reproductive freedom for all.

What we do: At Abortion Action Missouri, we organize. That means we bring people who support abortion access and reproductive freedom together to build power and ensure that powerful people protect our most basic freedoms. Mentioned in our organizational name, we organize to take action in our communities, because we know reproductive freedom can not be achieved with out action.

What we’ve accomplished: For the last year, Abortion Action Missouri helped lead the fight to win Amendment 3 and restore abortion access in our state. Because of the work of AAM volunteers and leaders, we passed Amendment 3 and have also built real political power to protect our win.

But we’re not just stopping at passing amendment 3. We’re continuing to build a movement to ensure that no politician will get away with rolling back our wins or banning abortion ever again. We’re also organizing to ensure every person in our state can get the safe, accessible, stigma free care they need to make decisions about their body, lives and futures.

How can a community member get involved? If you are interested in getting involved you can find more information about our upcoming actions on our website. You can also request to meet with our SWMO organizer Madi Summers (phone: 816-316-0222) (email: madi@abortionactionmissouri.org)

Community Together 417

Who we are: We are a small grassroots group in Springfield Missouri, focused on sharing events, activities and actions in which community members can participate.

What we do: It started as a simple text chain and has evolved into a movement to bring like-minded groups together to collaborate, communicate and cooperate, finding the most efficient and effective ways to organize this fight we are in to save our democracy.

What we’ve accomplished: We send individual daily texts to members of the text chain. We held our first Leaders & Community meeting April 21st with Jess Piper as our special guest (click here to view). And most recently, we have created this website for community members to find events and groups in one place in a simple, easy format.

Greater Springfield Indivisible

Who we are: Greater Springfield Indivisible is a community of engaged citizens dedicated to strengthening our bonds, promoting social justice, and opposing corruption through peaceful activism . We work to support fair and ethical leadership, encourage civic engagement and political action. We strive to make activism accessible, meaningful and impactful for all.

What we do: We plan and conduct peaceful protests, rallies and public meetings to support and preserve democracy and transparency in government. We also seek ways to support local charities. We are in the process of forming groups of volunteers to contact legislators about the concerns of their constituency with letter writing, open letters to the press, and phone calls.

What we’ve accomplished: We have collaborated with protests sponsored by other groups and we have planned and held our own protest and rally on April 19. We have regular board meetings to steer the group toward effectively raising the public voice to oppose project 2025 initiatives and promote a representative and responsive government

How can a community member get involved? Join our Facebook page. We also have a webpage and email address. There are multiple ways to volunteer including protests, sign making, helping with social media, writing letters and helping with events.

Greene County Democrats

Who we are: The Greene County Democratic Party’s mission is to recruit, consult, and elect Democratic candidates from local city halls to the White House.

Over the course of our organization’s 100-year history, we have consistently served as the foundation of Democratic politics in Southwest Missouri - amplifying and conveying the voice of progressives across the Ozarks.

What we do: Greene County Democrats is an organization primarily focused on electoral politics. We also work with community organizations to help where we can.

What we’ve accomplished: Democrat Days, Crash Course on Democracy, organize bus trips to Jefferson City to speak to Legislators, hosted meeting with collaboration of non-profits and more! Find upcoming events on our website.

How can a community member get involved? We can always use volunteers to help our candidates win elections, we have multiple committees folks can join, and we have goals we set for ourselves that we ask folks to help us accomplish in years without general elections. We also have a central committee that people in different wards can join, assuming their committee seat is open.

Our vision is to continue building off our recent electoral success and turn Greene County Blue, one election at a time.

Indivisible In The Ozarks

Who we are: We are a non-partisan, grass roots community action group, dedicated to promoting and supporting causes based on The United States Constitution and the protection of civil rights for citizens in the Ozarks. We are a group within the national Indivisible organization.

What we do: Our primary focus is to promote and support causes that uphold the rule of law and the protection of civil rights and freedoms for all people. We endorse non-violent actions to resolve the current Constitutional crisis created by the Trump administration’s disregard for the rule of law, including protests, rallies, letter/post card writing, and appeals to both parties to choose country over party.

What we’ve accomplished: Indivisible in the Ozarks was formed in early March 2025. We are led by a seven-member executive committee and have increased our membership from seven initial members to over 600, at last count. Our executive committee maintains our Facebook page, coordinates with and supports other emerging groups, plans events, provides aid and support to our most vulnerable populations.

We successfully co-sponsored Indivisible’s Hands Off Rally of April 5th and despite the wind, rain, and cold, we brought together approximately 700 people. We participated in the Greene County Democrat Days event in April, introducing our organization to Springfield’s national groups, such as the NAACP, and local groups, including Missouri State and Drury Young Democrats clubs.

On a weekly basis, our members write and make calls to our congressional leaders in Washington DC and Jefferson City, attend rallies and protests that call attention to the destruction of our federal and state services: veterans services, social security, education, loss of federal jobs and protections. Most recently we are speaking out on the loss of due process and the disregard for the separation of powers that has allowed the unlawful kidnapping and removal of persons entitled to the rights and protections afforded by the US Constitution.

How can a community member get involved?

  • Join our Facebook page to learn about what we are doing

  • Volunteer to serve on select committees that dovetail with your strengths and interests

  • Attend group meetings and events.

We recognize that “we the people” hold the most important political power in our country - as citizens! In exercising this power we are organizing protests and rallies, as well supporting other local groups whose aims and goals align with our mission of protecting our democracy.

Mayday Movement USA

Who we are: We are a true grassroots collaborative started by concerned citizens who connected over Reddit, and later joined together with other socially active organizations. Our momentum grew quickly as the Trump administration demonstrated a complete disregard for the constitutional system that holds out the hope of “liberty and justice for all.” This movement is not a knee-jerk reaction to the new administration. This is a deliberate and careful plan of action in response to a Constitutional crisis.

What we do: Our strategy is to establish a 24/7, legal, non-violent demonstration on the National Mall, calling on Congress to take the only logical step in this crisis: impeach, convict and remove Donald Trump.

Our plan of persuasion is threefold:

1) Amplify our collective voices to insist legislators impeach, convict and remove President Trump based on treason and other high crimes.

2) Educate the electorate about the need for impeachment and how this process works.

3) Participate in non-violent resistance through actions such as occupying the National Mall, and through the creation of art, music and other forms of media.

Our plan includes several daily rallies and a daily midnight vigil to acknowledge the loss of human rights, human lives and a compromised and uncertain future due to Trump’s illegal acts.

The Mayday Movement’s permanent site on the mall will serve as a launchpad for other groups who pursue more periodic, traditional protests. Collectively, we will amplify our voices.

What we’ve accomplished: We've grown from one Initiative Coordinator in February to a fully organized, motivated national team.

  • We’ve built key relationships with congressional offices that will be crucial to the impeachment effort.

  • We've created safety manuals for protestors and volunteers.

  • We've released a schedule of daily event themes.

  • We've launched and elevated our social media platforms.

  • We've grown our Bluesky and Reddit accounts exponentially since February.

  • We've organized volunteer onboarding and de-escalation training.

  • We've raised about $5k in total thus far.

  • We have secured 1A legal counsel.

How can a community member get involved?

  • Call/Write your representatives

  • Share & follow social media platforms

  • Attend Protests and Rallies as you are able

Missouri Jobs with Justice

Springfield-Ozarks region

Who we are: Since 1999, MO JWJ has shown up for workers across the state. We won minimum wage increases. We expanded Medicaid. We stop corporations from outsourcing our jobs and privatizing our public goods. We do big things.

What we do: We Build Power - Together we win tangible victories for all working people: Black, Brown, and white. We work to build power through action and strong relationships that are rooted in justice, equity, and solidarity. We don’t do the work as performance. We perform the work to build real power and real wins for all of us.

We Organize Together - We work to build workplaces, neighborhoods, cities, states, and a country where each of us have what we need for a safe and healthy life from cradle to grave. We show up for each other no matter what zip code you live in, what job you have, where you’re from, who you love, or what race you are.

We Name Names - There is a small group of wealthy white people working to keep the rest of us divided so they can call all the shots. They don’t want to see working people working together, and they definitely don’t want to share what should be rightfully ours.

What we’ve accomplished: We have lead the defense of Proposition A being attacked in the state legislature (a policy we put on the ballot of won by 57% statewide). We also stand in solidarity with our partners and build coalition at the statewide and local level. Locally we are running a campaign to limit campaign contributions to city council candidates and get money out of politics.

How can a community member get involved? We have monthly welcome meetings the last Wednesday of the month at 6 at 1515 S National Avenue. That is the first step. You can also meet with an organizer. Our regional organizer is Liz Wertz (417-699-0426) email: liz@mojwj.org

That’s why we run campaigns. We confront abuse and injustice. We get our issues in the news and on the ballot. We build relationships. We build consciousness. And we build collective power to force them to do what’s right.

PROMO

Missouri

Who we are: PROMO is Missouri's statewide 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy organization, working to protect and uplift the lives of queer and trans Missourians through public policy, community organizing, and education. We are rooted in the belief that everyone - no matter their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or zip code - deserves safety, dignity, and the freedom to thrive

What we do: We show up where it counts: the Capitol, in classrooms, in congregations, and at kitchen tables. Whether we're fighting discriminatory legislation, training the next generation of community leaders, or helping local communities push for inclusive policies, our work is focused on building long-term power for our most impacted communities.

What we’ve accomplished: We've mobilized 100's of community members across Missouri to testify, protest, and organize in response to an unprecedented wave of anti-trans and anti-queer legislation. We've trained everyday people to share their stories with lawmakers, supported coalition partners pushing back on coordinated attacks on public education and bodily autonomy, and kept national attention on Missouri's extremism. When bills are moving, so are we.

How can a community member get involved? This work needs all of us. Whether you want to plug into local organizing, help with outreach, or just understand what's going on in our state, there's a place for you in this movement. Reach out to Dany Lacio, PROMO's SWMO Organizer at dany@promomissouri.org or text/call 417-450-3322 (texting is best)

Missouri is a state in which LGBTQ+ people – every race, ethnicity, demographic, zip code, and experience – are valued and thriving.

Respect Mo Voters

Who we are: We are a growing a movement of people that want to change the way government works in Missouri by allowing voters to change the Missouri Constitution and safeguard those changes from meddling politicians. We mobilize Missourians who want to keep this power in our own hands. We will protect, strengthen, and use the citizen initiative process to ensure a government of, by, and for the people—not for the politicians.

What we do: We are recruiting volunteers to gather signatures for 2 hours per week for 12 weeks beginning in July 1st in order to be able to place this legislation on the November 2026 ballot.

What we’ve accomplished: At the Respect MO Voters Policy Summit in March discussions were intriguing and illuminating. Engaged Missourians took input gathered at our statewide town halls and participated in a lively discussion about how to best protect voter freedoms while representing the will of the people. Volunteers for the Policy team are working hard to put our citizen input into action. Amendment proposals are being drafted, reviewed by attorneys, filed with the Secretary of State, and polled in the coming weeks.

How can a community member get involved?

  • Go to our website to learn more about what we are doing and all the resources we have available.

  • Sign up to join us in collecting signatures starting on July 1st (5,000 volunteers are needed)

  • Join our Facebook Group “Respect MO Voters: Ban Politian’s from attacking Citizen’s initiatives)

Together, we can BAN politicians from:

  • Interfering with initiatives that voters have already passed.

  • Attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process.

  • Manipulating language on ballots to trick and mislead voters.

Speak Up

Who we are: We are a resistance group formed in the Ozarks with the goal of sharing personal stories (primarily/preferably via video) of locals who have been/will be impacted by the administration's threats to our democracy. Let's connect our community on a human level. Speak Up to make a change.

What we do: We're an organization formed in Springfield, MO as a direct result of the political changes our country has been experiencing since the 2024 election. While we are in the initial stages or our existence, our main goal is to collect stories, primarily via video, of our neighbors in the Ozarks who have been or will potentially be severely impacted by the current administration. Sharing these stories on social media, we want people to look into the eyes and hear the words of someone from their own community and understand how devastating these impacts have been or will soon be. We are hoping to connect our community on a human level. We hope to change people's minds about the way they voted, to inspire the 36% who did not vote to come to the polls next time, and to grow the nationwide movement's numbers. We aim to be a part of the change that will reverse the trajectory our country is on. We want to give local people a voice to Speak Up against the threat to our democracy.

What we’ve accomplished: In the past 60 days, we've formed a weekly sort of board meeting where we discuss how we can collect our stories. We're planning an event (details in the works), where the community can come prepared to record their stories as well as connect with like-minded individuals. Sort of a call-to-action event. We're also planning on having a booth at the farmers’ market where we can get the word out about our cause and even record stories on site if any passers-by would like to share. We've created a FB page, a YouTube channel, and a TikTok account; albeit with no content quite yet. We're confident there are troves of stories to delve into once that well begins to flow. We've been working on our own stories within our group. We know that to ask anyone else to share, we ourselves will have to be willing to be the first to take that step. We've discussed opening a monthly meeting to the public to gather stories and support each other. We may have guest speakers at these meetings from different organizations (Planned Parenthood, Ozarks Food Harvest, The League of Women's Voters, etc.) to share how we as a community can support local causes where there's now a larger need due to the cuts that have been implemented. We also serve to support other local resistance groups by getting the word out and being involved in protests, rallies and meetings.

How can a community member get involved? Speak Up. We know it's an extremely vulnerable thing to ask of anyone. Some may feel they're not eloquent/confident/significant enough to share their story. But we would disagree. Your story is important. And we're at a juncture in our nation where it is incredibly important to share it. Even if it's a 90 second TikTok or a 10-minute YouTube video, getting your face in front of your neighbor's feed is going to make an impact. They cannot deny your experience as a human, and we tend to listen to/respect our own community members more than we would from complete strangers. As an added benefit, I'm sure it will be cathartic and feel good to be a small part of this huge movement. YOUR part. YOUR story. You could connect with someone who voted for this president on a HUMAN level. That is a powerful thing. You can share your story tonight, if you're ready. We'll be out front ready to record. We welcome anyone to reach out via email (speakupozarks@gmail.com) to set up a time to come record. The more content we have, the bigger the reach for our overall movement will be. How has this administration devastated you? How will these cuts impact your family?

Don't listen to your insecurities, NOW is the time to share, if there ever was one. Now is the time to get emotional; to get LOUD. Now is the time to SPEAK UP.
