It’s Saturday, wait what… no protest?! Yep, that is right, not today but TOMORROW!! Sunday 11 am, Downtown Square “PROTECT YOUR NEIGHBORS” a protest to protect our Immigrant & International Community against the attaches by 47 and his “people”. There will be speakers at both locations. I’ll be at City Hall with cases of water, purple bandanas and will be speaking at 11:45ish. (Depends on how fast people walk!). Check the event page for more information.
Thursday is MAY DAY - International Workers' Day is a celebration of working people and a day when people campaign for decent work and fair pay. Thanks to action taken by workers over many years, millions of people have won fundamental rights and protections. Minimum wages have been established, there are limits on working hours, and people have the right to paid holidays and sick pay. Workers' Day is a day for working people to have a rest from their usual labor. It is an opportunity to campaign for workers' rights, show solidarity with other working people and to celebrate the achievements of workers all over the world!
There is a national call for a strike on May 1st from many organizations. Organization know that times are tough, prices are up, they know this is a sacrifice but it’s a day to say together - “enough is enough” and take the day off your job.
Here is Springfield we have two events planned for that day (More if on events page for all events):
Missouri Jobs with Justice NEEDS YOU to help canvas businesses to support workers, making sure they are getting paid what they are supposed to. Meet at the church for training and assignments then go canvas businesses and “STAND UP SPRINGFIELD” Rally & March at the downtown square being hosted by many of the active groups in the area. Take the day off, join the fight with us!
14M “Boots on the ground” - we can do that, one pair at a time!!!
