Today more young people put their “boots on the ground”

At 11:00 am today the Springfield MO weather FINALLY cooperated for people came together (about 70) at the Downtown Square, marched to city hall and back to protest the attacks by the Trump administration on International Students and our immigrant community.

This was organized by multiple groups and it was wonderful see more young people holding signs on the street. With that said, it’s finals - end of school year, most of them are keeping their heads down to finish that homework to pass those classes. But let me tell you, after speaking to some of them today by the end of May… their focus will change and they will be unstoppable, in the meantime we will hold space for them.

It’s Sunday, whatever you do today, take some time for yourself. Remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. We need to care for ourselves and our families, take a deep breathe and put our toes in the grass. But taking a break doesn’t mean we lose focus. Make that phone call or write that email/letter that you keep putting off to our state elected officials (I can help you how to do that now that I have learned myself).

While I type this, I am listening to a Cory Booker and Hakeem Jefferies live on the steps of the US Capital. It’s clear this fight is going to be long and hard. But we are not just a few hundred people in Springfield, Missouri that are alone, nope, there are tens of thousands of fellow American’s that are standing with us, side by side, heart and soul. The call is to “hit the streets, make some noise and come together to get this done!”
