Bad weather, no power - HJR 73
This morning about 945 am a very powerful storm hit Springfield Missouri. 91 mph winds were recorded at the airport. Power for most of the city went down immediately and by 9 pm more than 20,000 residents were still in the dark (us included). There is some debate of what was seen was a tornado or a storm shelf… the thousands of comments showed how easily people turn into “experts” on the internet. What is very clear is that there are trees uprooted all over the city, that a trailer park was devastated leaving people without homes and that people are obsessed with putting themselves in danger to take photos or videos instead of seeking shelter.
But through it all, the flight continues. Because at 430 pm with overcast skies people showed up for a scheduled protest in front of the school districts office in support of education, students and teachers.
People are also making arrangements to drive to Jefferson City early Wednesday morning in a last ditch effort to save AMMENDMENT 3. This was an amendment that was voted on in Nov 2024 and passed with over 60% of the votes restoring our rights to reproductive health care. Yet HJR 73 will overturn the will of the people. The conservative law makers are putting their own personal beliefs into law saying “people didn't know what they were voting for”. This is happening all over the country, defying the will of the people, politician personal opinion over voting citizens. It has to stop! If just one good thing can come out of the nightmare of this administration, perhaps this country will fix the voting process once and for all. Stop the manipulation of the people with misinformation, confusing language, germandering and outright cheating.
Tomorrow is a new day, power will be restored for many, in the light of the day people can see the damage. Let’s hope that this one last ditch effort to save the will of the people will prevail.
